In 1974, Mattel launched the Barbie Townhouse, which recalled Le Corbusier’s Maison Dom-Ino with its open-plan modular construction model. It wasn’t until 1990, however, that the image most of us have in our heads of Barbie’s home—an elaborate construction bathed entirely in pink and fuchsia, with furniture to match—became a reality with the debut of the Magical Mansion. But what if, instead of merely providing inspiration for Barbie’s home, Le Corbusier himself had been asked to design her home? Fortunately, the artificial intelligence software Stable Diffusion allows us to play with these pipe dreams and turn those fantasies into reality.

The immersive activation — which is now open at Santa Monica Place — was imagined by live entertainment company Kilburn Live, Mattel, Inc. and global sports, fashion and events giant IMG. Frank Gehry would use curved forms in a different way, covering the façade with metallic plates in a light purple tone. In fact, the AI model evokes the Hotel Marqués de Riscal in La Rioja.

Mallett sees 1979 as an important cultural dividing line — a period of oil shocks and stagflation. It also marks the dawn of Reaganism and Thatcherism and its attendant surge of individualism. A later version of the townhouse, produced in the 1980s, was more Postmodern in concept, featuring checked black-and-white kitchen floors and a massive sunken tub in the bathroom. It seemed to signal that ‘80s Barbie was ready to ditch Ken in favor of Michael Douglas in his Gordon Gekko phase.

Many employers weren’t legally required to pay women equal salaries as men for the same work either, before the passage of the Equal Pay Act in 1963. Against all odds, Barbara Millicent Roberts bought her first home in 1962. Women were denied mortgage applications because of their sex or marital status at the time, but that didn’t stop her.

Frank Lloyd Wright, on the other hand, would create a house integrated into its natural environment. Elyse Mallouk joins the Broad museum as chief strategy officer and Eva Seta, formerly of the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, joins as director of marketing and communications. Naturally, all of this has gotten me thinking about Barbie Dreamhouses. The stark reminders that it’s a fantasyland might put some viewers at ease. The privilege of being a toy meant that Barbie never faced adversity.

Better known by her nickname, Barbie, after graduating from Willows High School, one of the greatest pop icons of all time set off to live her own independent life in 1962. The young blonde doll, created by the American toy company Mattel, was destined to live forever at age 19. In 1962, she got a home of her own when the original Barbie Dreamhouse debuted. The celebrated architect Zaha Hadid, born and raised in Iraq, had one of those minds for whom nothing was impossible. “I don't have a style, rather I try to be always on the frontier of innovation, trying to invent everything.

To impress men, Ms. Brown instructed women on having a “wall of pictures,” a “sexy kitchen” and plenty of books — features found in Barbie’s townhouse. The production also features a museum exhibit where guests can see how Barbie, her Dreamhouse and her various vehicles have evolved over the years. You can even see the Barbie doll that started it all, clad in a black and white striped swimsuit and her iconic ponytail. The 20,000 square-foot attraction allows fans to step inside Barbie's life-sized Dreamhouse, try on one of Barbie's careers for size and even get in the driver's seat of a Barbie Camper Van designed by West Coast Customs. Society has held up “this promise of homeownership as part and parcel of the American dream,” for centuries, said Ms. Castro.

In 2015, she had new seven-room digs, complete with a garage for her convertible. As suburban residents grew hungrier for larger homes, McMansions both fueled and satisfied that desire. Barbie’s signature pink began increasingly popping up in the 1970s, part of Mattel’s effort to brand toys to stand out from competitors, said Mr. Burrichter. Though it might’ve been successful marketing, Mattel’s pink dousing would later be criticized for perpetuating gender stereotypes. Though feminism was now mainstream, some efforts to advance women’s rights were stalling.

About 2.3 million homes in the United States had at least one foreclosure filing in 2008, more than triple the amount from 2006. She also encouraged playing tennis to meet men — advice Barbie might have followed, as seen by the tennis racket resting on her vanity. “If you are to be a glamorous, sophisticated woman that exciting things happen to, you need an apartment and you need to live in it alone! Books and varsity pennants are the markings of a college-educated woman, signaling Barbie’s autonomy.

Financial institutions frequently turned down mortgage applications for women without male co-signers when Mattel debuted the Dreamhouse in 1962, three years after Barbie shook up the toy world, arriving in a one-piece bathing suit and kitten heels. The Lina Bo Bardi house surprises us with the architect’s signature intelligence that is at the heart of all of her designs. The greatest German representative of Rationalism and the last director of the Bauhaus School, Mies was the son of a stonemason, the source in part of his respect for noble materials and precise, refined visual perfection. It is not surprising, therefore, that the AI design inspired by his work has only a few elements—albeit very well-curated ones—and rejects the use of pink while opting instead for the sobriety of more natural tones. The Frank Gehry house also has elements from previous designs like the Hotel Marqués de Riscal in Spain’s Rioja region and the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.

To bring the doll’s world to cinematic life for the buzzy Hollywood movie “Barbie,” four life-size Dreamhouses were erected at studios in Britain, leading to a shortage in a supply of pink paint. Later houses would also draw from cutting-edge trends in architecture. A Dreamhouse released in 1979 was inspired by A-frame cabins, ditching the designated-use spaces in favor of something more flexible and open plan. The whole vibe, write the authors, echoes Charles Moore’s 1970s Sea Ranch development in Sonoma.

From the beginning, much of Barbie’s existence — her unrealistic physical proportions, the lack of racially diverse dolls, the toy’s reinforcing of gender roles — has been debated in jest and in seriousness. But her home, which has not been as publicly parsed or praised like the doll, has been a mirror for the various social, political and economic changes the rest of the country was experiencing. It has followed housing patterns and trends, from chic, compact urban living to suburban sprawl to pure excess. At times, it has been out of step, ignoring the country’s ills (Barbie’s never been broke; she has never lost her house to foreclosure).

It took me a long time to review and rethink typology, archaeology, and styles, and then learn to reach the level of complexity and then build on that special diversity,” she once told AD Spain during an interview at her London home. The Barbie home inspired by Hadid is a sculptural construction, in which a dynamic and powerful curve plays a starring role. According to the AI software, the Barbie house that Hadid would have built would include this unmistakable signature element, and also be characterized by a precise neatness broken only by a few touches of pink—at the client's request, of course.

She felt like she hit the jackpot — it was in mint condition, and it even came with furniture. Barbie’s A-frame house had window planters overflowing with plastic flora — her plants were no longer just 2D. Houseplants saw a bloom during the environmental movement of the 1970s when people filled their homes with macramé plant hangers and terrariums. As the 1970s ended, Barbie — and many Americans — gave up the metropolitan lifestyle and moved out to the suburbs with a prototypical A-frame home. This was contrary to many early dollhouses, which were made with the intent of teaching young girls domestic tasks. Take a stop-motion journey with the young, single homeowner of the Dreamhouse.

The Story of the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse: 25 Years of Global Friendship

dushanbe tea house

Both cities are about the same size, share the same latitude and have similar topography. The establishment of sister cities was a grassroots effort to connect people across cultures. A time for people to gather and talk over warm cups of tea, the Teahouse was a fitting gift to the city of Boulder. Forty Tajik artisans hand-made the teahouse over a period of two years, took it apart, and then packed the pieces into about 200 crates to be shipped to Boulder.

The Story Behind Boulder's Dushanbe Teahouse and Other City Partnerships

And once locals could see its intricate and colorful beauty on display, any lingering concerns turned to praise. In the central pool of the Teahouse there are seven hammered copper sculptures created by artist Ivan Milosovich. The life sized sculptures are based on a 12th century poem, “The Seven Beauties ” the 4th poem of Nizami Ganjavi’s “Khamsa”. They chronicle the adventures of Shah Bahram Goirr, son of Yargourd the 1st from the Sasanids dynasty. Nizami uses the well documented events to explore the themes of social justice, morality, and appreciation of nature.

At the western end of the Himalayas, its terrain is 93% mountainous, with peaks towering to 24,000 feet. Prior to being named capital to the Soviet Republic of Tajikistan in 1929, Dushanbe, which signifies Monday, was a village of 400 – 600 people and was the site of the weekly bazaar, held on Mondays. Dushanbe now has a population of 600,000 and its people are struggling with the aftermath of civil war following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. “The Seven Beauties is the 4th poem of Nizami Ganjavi’s “Khamsa, which means “Five Treasuries”.

Our Teahouse accurately reflects this artistic tradition that dates back nearly 2,000 years. The master woodcarvers, including Manon Khaidarov and Mirpulat Mirakhmatov who helped reassemble the Teahouse here, have carved their names in the ceiling. The artisans who have painted it have written their names on a green painted area above the entry to the kitchen.

Lenny’s creative vision has extended to his other restaurants, Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant, The Huckleberry, Zucca Italian, and The Chautauqua Dining Hall, one of Boulder’s historic landmarks. In addition to the restaurants, Lenny has created a large, successful catering business, Three Leaf Catering. The incredible hand carved plaster walls were carved here in Boulder during the construction of the Teahouse in 1998 by Kodir Rhakimov, one of the original artists who was visiting to help with the building of the building. The panels are meticulously carved using a sharp scalpel, and are some of the most traditional forms of Persian art at the Teahouse.

The works were completed in 1197 ad, and chronicle the adventure of Shah Bahram Goirr, son of Yargourd the 1st from the Sasanids dynasty. Nizami uses the well documented events to explore the themes social justice, morality, and appreciation of nature. The poem is notable for its deep content and social sense, as well as its rich composition and prominent poetic value. The City of Boulder and Three Leaf Concepts entered into a partnership in 1996 that has proven beneficial to both parties, as well as the larger community.

The rose gardens in front of the Teahouse include over 50 varieties of heirloom roses, which were first grown in Central Asia. In the 7th Century BC, the area we now know as Tajikistan was settled at the eastern periphery of the Persian Empire. Situated a bit south of the Silk Road trails, the area has seen invasions by Alexander the Great, Mongols, Arabs, Turks, and Russians. Today, Tajikistan, with a population of 7 million, is about the size of Iowa, and is bordered to the east by China, to the north by Uzbekistan and Kyrgystan, and to the south by Afghanistan.

The trades used by the artisans were passed from generation to generation within families, such as the use of nature, and repetition of patterns, descendant from traditional Persian design. Also, no power tools were used in the original construction of the tea house. LENNY MARTINELLIOwner, Executive Chef & CEO of Three Leaf ConceptsLenny graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Environmental Design.

On the proper day of the week, Bahram would dress himself in the appropriate color, and go to visit the wife that corresponded with the day. Each woman would relate to him a story from her native land and praise the attributes of her own color. All the tales are closely related to popular folklore and combine the scientific and philosophical views on the symbolic effects of the colors. The poem inspires honesty, virtue and kindness, while denouncing arrogance, villiany, greediness and treachery. And so, the princesses’ tales serve not only to entertain the Shah, but to ponder life and consider the secrets on the universe and human nature. Kodir carved the ganch during his visit to Boulder, and it took many months to complete the job.

As the name suggests, tea is the raison d'être here, and the selection is comprehensive. From apple strudel and samosas to feijoada and plov (a buttery rice dish studded with chickpeas, dried fruit and grilled beef), the menu reads like a world explorer's diary. Naturally, tea time and afternoon tea are reason alone to visit, and the dessert selection is particularly tempting. Once here, they were repositioned together by Victor, who was visiting to help with construction. Inside the Teahouse are eight large, intricately carved white plaster panels, designed and executed by Kodir Rakhimov, whose contemporary oil paintings are framed by this art of Persian antiquity. When Mayor Maksud Ikramov of Dushanbe, Tajikistan visited Boulder in 1987, he announced the gift of a teahouse to celebrate the establishment of the sister cities.

This exhibit will follow the evolution of the teahouse, which is the only authentic Persian tea house in North America. On exhibit will be pieces from its earliest days to objects seen by patrons enjoying delicious food and of course distinctive teas. The uniqueness and the cultural importance of the teahouse created the desire for the city to find a thoughtful and sensitive way to manage the structure.

Sara is the tea specialist and blender at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse and has created a number of the Teahouse’s exclusive tea blends. In addition to her clinical practice for humans, Sara also consults for both equine and canine clients, and creates customized formulas to increase health, performance, and vitality. Sara teaches numerous classes and workshops at Three Leaf Farm and has written a number of articles for publication. The Teahouse takes great effort to sanitize and protect the health of our guests. The days of the pandemic have been challenging but our community has rallied around the locally owned restaurants. On Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, April through November, the Boulder Farmers Market happens right in front of the teahouse.

He was welcomed back into the Three Leaf Family with the opening of Aji Latin American Restaurant (now closed) as a partner, and now supports all of the concepts in the Three Leaf Group. Afternoon Tea is one of our most popular offerings, with a traditional linen-draped table, a three-tiered serving tray with sweet and savory delicacies, and a pot of our premium tea. Carved in Tajikistan of Siberian cider, the 12 majestic columns are all hand carved and no two are alike. The 7 bronze statues of the Seven Beauties, characters in a traditional folk tale, were an exciting surprise when we opened the crates that the Teahouse was packed in. Today the Beauties make up the gorgeous central fountain of the Teahouse. Throughout the Teahouse, every ceiling square or alcove is painted differently with traditional Persian designs.

First, Kodir mixed his secret blend of plaster, allowing it to cure to a specific consistency. Then he placed it on an easel and began the painstakingly slow process of carving the delicate material. Each panel is composed of a number of “tiles” that when put together create the whole.

The entirety of the interior ceiling is handpainted and delicately carved to create a space that is both magical and airy. Originally crafted and painted in Tajikistan, the Teahouse gets periodic “touch up” from visiting Tajik artists. In his youth, our hero sees portraits of the seven daughters of the continents in a luxurious palace loses his heart to them. Later, when he becomes the Shah of Iran, he sends for the seven women and marries them. He has the renown architect, Shidda, build a palace with seven cupolas, each colored a different color with a corresponding planet.

While the process of qualifying a UX design firm’s worth is not always straightforward, this is how a large number of UX firms will evaluate the potential return on their future design investments. Most likely, you want to see who exactly their works have improved performance, conversion and bounce rates, and user flows. This school is ideal if you’re seeking an approved certification from an American university, have a relatively flexible budget (the price is an estimate and may vary), and wish to choose from a diverse selection of electives. According to data gathered by Indeed in the United States, it was estimated that the average monthly payment for a UI UX designer in the U.S. is $102,443. Take note that this is the cost of developing an app for a single platform.

Q: What makes a good UI & UX Design portfolio?

With the skeleton of the product mapped out, the UI designer steps in to bring it to life. But like UX, it is easily and often confused by the industries that employ UI designers—to the extent that different job posts will often refer to the profession as completely different things. Ultimately, the aim is to connect business goals to users’ needs through a process of user and usability testing and refinement toward that which satisfies both sides of the relationship. In fact, the role of the UX designer varies hugely depending on the type of company they’re working in.

UI vs. UX salary

You see that iteration of the product, as connected to analysis or testing, is indeed mentioned twice, but in reality, you would put it in between every other item on the list. So part marketer, part designer, part project manager, the UX role is complex, challenging, and multi-faceted. The ultimate purpose of UX design is to create easy, efficient, relevant, and all-around pleasant experiences for the user. User Interface and User Experience design both require an understanding of what users need. For UX design, there are a number of paid courses, of courses from online universities. You can also check out a list of the best online courses to learn UI/UX design so you can see which websites offer courses for free, and read user feedback.

Final projects are presented at the Design + Technology BFA/MFA Thesis Show. Graduates are prepared for careers in UI/UX Design, Interaction Design, and many others across industries. At the end of each semester, MDes students will complete a Grad Lab course. This program requirement consists of assignments, weekly one-on-one group meetings, workshops, and a lecture series. In the Lab, students will also have opportunities to complete an internship and participate in conferences and competitions.

Choosing between UX and UI

Students in the Department have access to prototyping labs, computer studios, tool rooms, and the Design Museum. Design Department students  also have the opportunity to join clubs, participate in competitions, and access Handshake, which lists more than 100 industry internship and job opportunities. The Capstone Project and Portfolio (course 288, Summer quarter) marks the completion of all capstone projects and development of professional portfolios. The School of Engineering at Stanford University was established in 1925. Serving more than 1,500 students, the School houses nine academic departments and several institutes. The Woods Institute for the Environment is a collaboration between students, staff, and faculty from the centers and institutes at Stanford. The Institute highlights education, interdisciplinary research, and outreach with a focus on the environment and sustainability. The MDes in Design for Interactions at CMU is a terminal degree in design.

It requires you to manage a spectrum of user impressions and interactions for various brands. While the two terms are often used interchangeably, UI design relates to the visual elements (buttons, icons, etc.) of a digital product, and UX design is about its overall interaction and usability. UI/UX Design and Product Design are ideal options for students seeking advanced or leadership roles in UX/UI/HCI. Examples include User Experience Design 1; Virtual Reality; Human Factors Engineering; Digital Imaging Studio; Wearable Technology; Virtual Reality; and Technology Entrepreneurship. The flexible MSIS also allows students to obtain certifications, enroll in a dual degree, and/or engage in cross-disciplinary academic areas through Graduate Portfolio Programs. Students have plenty of opportunities to develop skills in multiple areas thanks to the programs 30 credit hours of electives—out of a total 36 credit hours to graduate.

Students in this final course will create a document and synthesis of the graduate experience. The culminating experience for the program is the Thesis (Plan A) or Project (Plan B). The Human Factors and Ergonomics MS at San Jose State University is housed in the College of Engineering’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE).

You can kick-start your design career in a UI/UX bootcamp — a quicker, often cheaper, and more flexible alternative to traditional college. A bachelor's degree typically takes four years of full-time study to complete, but a UI bootcamp can be finished in 9-40 weeks. If you like the idea of creating awesome user experiences but see yourself as a more visual person, you may be more interested in UI design. You’ll find a brief snapshot of the UI designer’s key tasks below or a more comprehensive explanation of what a UI designer actually does in this guide.

So we decided to add our 5 cents to that and provide a list of great user experience design agencies and companies who (based on our research) deserve much more attention. UX design bootcamps often kick off with prework that covers the basics of design theory, concepts, and tools. The following units teach you how to map out a user experience and use wireframing for prototyping using tools such as Figma. At the start of a UX bootcamp, you'll analyze user research and merge it with business needs to create digital products. Many UX and UI designers went to college for art or graphic design, followed by a brief coding bootcamp to complete their skillset.

On the other hand, if you are good with managing user and stakeholder needs, have excellent analysis skills, and understand how user experiences can be improved, UX design would be more suited to you. Any frontend development and design process should start with understanding the needs of the user. UX and UI designers should work in collaboration with other developers, managers, and product owners to understand what the end product should be able to do, how it should feel, and what it should look like. Startups sometimes build a minimum viable product without a dedicated UI designer—but there are drawbacks. "Graphic designers often own responsibilities for brand alignment, and will help provide some brand guidelines to build UI," Hugo says. "But graphic designers traditionally focus on static printed design, so they may need to get up to speed on accessibility and responsive design—key skills UI designers bring to the table."

At the same time, he rejected the state’s argument that SB 9 promotes housing affordability at lower income levels by increasing the overall housing supply. Kin wrote that Attorney General Rob Bonta and the state housing department failed to prove that SB 9 would increase the number of homes affordable to low income families — “especially in economically prosperous cities,” he wrote. The law sought to address soaring housing costs by giving renters and working families greater access to neighborhoods they couldn’t otherwise afford.

Seen as a virtual end to single-family zoning in California, the law allows lot splits in suburban neighborhoods, with one home and one “accessory dwelling unit” (or granny flat) on each new lot — replacing one home with up to four. SB 9 “is neither reasonably related to its stated concern of ensuring access to affordable housing nor narrowly tailored to avoid interference with local government,” Kin wrote. Our apparel designs are derived from and inspired by decades of experience in the wilderness, on land, in the sea, and in remote (and sometimes dangerous) places. We create the new modern standards with the latest in technical-performance materials, use the tried and true, and bring a very high level of carefully considered, functional details to every garment we make. If there is a simple statement that is the soul of what our mission is, it would be “Virtute Vera.” It is a classic latin motto that can be applied to how you embrace and live your life.

EDC Tools

Prometheus Design Werx operates out of workshop with a variety of classic “analog” tools such as a Bridgeport “knee mill,” power hammer, to modern CAD, and WACOM interactive pen displays. All of which allows us to conceptualize, experiment, prototype, test, and evaluate a wide variety of pre-production objects during R&D. After each step of our product design and development process is signed off on and approved, we carefully select one of our certified manufacturing partners to produce our products for the marketplace.

Additionally, the grip itself swells slightly on each side for comfortable, hand-filling ergonomics. Likewise, the bolster contains a finger notch and a slight upper and lower guard to aid in comfort and retention during use. The triangle found in the center of our logo, is the strongest of all shapes, it is the core, hearth, and the alchemical symbol for fire. The three intertwined modified hexagons represent the interconnectivity of both the planned and often unexpected directions in life and enterprise.

Our design process is one which involves the empirical, years of field experience, the fulfillment of a need, and discussions with real world users who find themselves in challenging (and sometimes dangerous) environments and conditions all over the world. We don't do racing stripes, garish flourishments, or superfluous details in our designs. Every part, component, and detail that goes into a design serves a purpose, and its whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

We have manufacturing partners throughout the United States, and the world to bring the best goods possible to our customers. We are obliged to meet the high quality and functional standards expected of our products and work with the best manufacturing centers domestically and abroad, to deliver on that promise. Weighing in at only 1.9oz, the CAS OTF also features a matte and satin dual-tone-finished modified spear point blade made from top-shelf Böhler M390 steel. Best of all, with a length of 1.925”, this out-the-front knife is completely legal to carry in the Golden State. Machined jimping along the outside of the handle also affords ample grip while the use of blind holes for the handle’s screws results in an ultra-clean appearance.

Representing PDW’s second OTF model after the recently-released SPD Audax, the CAS is crafted around a 3.03″ handle that’s been precision-machined from aerospace-grade T6061 aluminum billet. In order to achieve its unique contoured shape, PDW has opted for a special CNCing technique that requires three times as much machining as regular milled handles. Prometheus Design Werx designs and crafts exceptional multi-purpose performance apparel, equipment, EDC tools, and accessories to outfit the self-reliant individual for uncommon adventures and challenges off and on the grid.

These are the California cities where $150,000 still buys you a home. Could you live here?

When it comes to some of the coolest EDC items on the market, Prometheus Design Werx tops the list. Along with the typical EDC fare, the company also releases knives that have all the familiar hallmarks of quality as its other products. Alongside its compact yet utilitarian nature, another major part of what makes the OS3 so special is its sheath. Rather than opting for a custom-fitted KYDEX item, PDW has paired the OS3 with a stacked leather sheath. Made entirely by hand, the sheath sports a cleverly-designed backside that allows it to be securely mounted to a backpack’s shoulder strap — including PDW’s HAL1 Velcro straps — where it can be kept at the ready for rapid deployment.

Over the months that I have been using the SPD STS-B, it has proven itself to be functional and comfortable. But to be honest, I have used Prometheus Design Werx knives before, and this seems to be a hallmark. As with all of the company’s EDC products, this is a high-quality, purpose-driven knife that gets it right.

This Velcro-enabled, dual-loop mounting system can also be used to secure the knife to a myriad of racks and other bags. Utilizing a distinct clip point blade made in premium böhler m390, the 3.50-inch blade has an aggressive swedge that runs the length of the clip point. The blade is held closed via a ceramic ball detent and is brought to bear on ceramic bearings in bronze cages and stainless-steel pivot. Produced in extremely limited quantities, the Prometheus Design Werx x Chris Reeve Knives SPD Edition Sebenza 31 knives are available now, with pricing set at $505 for the SPD Edition Sebenza 31 Small and $580 for the SPD Edition Sebenza 31 Large. Alongside the new Sebenza 31 variants, PDW has also restocked the small and large sizes of its PDW x CRK SPD Edition Inkosi knife — which are also priced at $505 and $580, respectively.

Working to be responsible stewards of our land and wildlife so that our children may also enjoy them. How to sharpen an axe, tying a figure 8, changing your own oil and properly recycling it, and making a pot of chili from scratch. Knowing that the “golden rule” and a handshake still count for something, and understanding that the true spirit of adventure is a state of heart and mind. This includes the Sebenza’s set of 6AL-4V titanium handles being decorated with a milled PDW Kraken Trident Logo and a gray 550 paracord lanyard.

However, also like all of the company’s EDC products, they are very popular and disappear fast. Unfortunately, Prometheus Design Werx does not plan to make the SPD STS-B with the G-10 or carbon fiber anymore. Then, continuing with the fire-making theme, I took one of the pieces and carved a feather stick for tinder. The edge geometry worked really well for this, and I was able to get some very fine curls. The jimping on the handle and spine helped with retention during use, while the rounded spine kept it comfortable.

Offered in dark gray or OD green anodized color options — as well as limited edition red and orange colorways — the Prometheus Design Werx CAS OTF Knife will be available for purchase starting September 24. The Prometheus Design Werx Team is an eclectic aggregate of individuals who all intrinsically share in the mission and ethos of the brand. We are comprised of forward thinkers, designers, craftsmen, former service members, rebels, and adventurers.

After testing some of its wilderness survival capabilities, I took it home for some basic utility tests. I have already been carrying it for a couple of months and used it for just about everything, and it has performed excellently. I started with wilderness survival and found a small, dried maple round, split a piece off it, and whittled the end into a wedge. Once I was able to fit my wedge into the split, I used it to finish splitting the round for kindling. Featuring an integrated titanium bolster style construction, the scales run just under two-thirds the length of the grip.

We design and craft our products for those who see themselves as being more than just capable. You rise to the occasion, live well, and with each challenge and adventure that comes your way, you adapt, improvise, overcome, conquer...do it all your way, and with “True Grit.”Live Wild Wise and Free. That you should know how to start a proper campfire without a match and also safely extinguish it. Being able to hit a target at 300 yds using iron sights, and knowing that a wild strawberry tastes better than anything bought in a store. Prometheus Design Werx crafts exceptional multi-purpose performance apparel, equipment, EDC tools, and accessories to outfit the self-reliant individual for uncommon adventures and challenges off and on the grid. Whether it’s firearms or blades, the State of California has some of the strictest laws in the country when it comes to carrying.

Being based in San Francisco, Prometheus Design Werx is well aware of this reality. Wanting to deliver an automatic EDC knife that’s legal to carry in its home state, PDW has now unveiled the CAS OTF. Beautifully matching the aesthetics of the Prometheus Design Werx SPD STS-B is its performance. I used the knife to perform a few of the different functions that I felt held true to its purpose. Regarding self-defense use, I have no doubt it will perform admirably in that function.

"But if they actually do what they're capable of doing with the forces amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine." Today, we answered history’s call at this critical inflection point. With the signing of our national security package, we tell the world that America stands resolutely for democracy and freedom, and against tyranny and oppression. Trona’s heyday was in the early 1900s, when it was a company town, established in 1914 and operated by the American Trona Corp. Early on, a central building housed many workers and all the town’s businesses, including a “pool hall, a barber shop, post office, library, grocery and department store,” according to the Searles Valley Historical Society.

"The question was, do I continue to spend that much money per week in the state of Afghanistan knowing that the idea that being able to succeed, other than sending more body bags back home, is highly, highly unusual," he said. The West Virginia Democrat has repeatedly said he will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster, which sets a 60-vote threshold to pass most legislation, creating an obstacle for his party as Senate Democrats push for a rules change. In remarks on the Senate floor, Manchin said he was speaking out against "a great misleading of the American people." "I'm going to go out and talk to the public. I'm going to do public fora. I'm going to interface with them. I'm going to make the case of what we've already done, why it's important and what we'll do, what will happen if they support what else I want to do." When asked whether that would have to wait, Biden said it was one of two major priorities he campaigned on that he was unsure he could get in a scaled-back package. President Biden said Wednesday that he was unsure that the child tax credit could pass in a scaled-back version of his Build Back Better agenda, a key provision Democrats have sought to extend that lacks support from moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin.

Like so many California real estate deals, you have to journey off the beaten path, make compromises and have some imagination. Judd said she relied on her “chosen family” to process her mother’s death, as Aloe Blacc did with his own after Avicii’s suicide. A day after Naomi Judd’s death, the Country Music Hall of Fame moved forward with the induction of her and daughter Wynonna. “I’m here because I am my beloved mother’s daughter and on the day she died, which will be the two-year anniversary in one week, the disease of mental illness was lying to her and with great terror convinced her that it would never get better,” Judd continued. The Los Angeles Police Department arrested approximately 50 protestors at the University of Southern California after campus police gave a dispersal order to demonstrators, according to a CNN crew at the scene.

Biden has delivered only one other such speech during his presidency, after Congress passed bipartisan budget legislation to avert a default on the country’s debt. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said it's "practically impossible" to pass a national security supplemental by the end of the year, noting that the House will leave at the end of the week until 2024. The remark came after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., suggested that it would be "practically impossible" for Congress to pass a national security supplemental aid package before January. "It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about what to do and not do," Biden told reporters at an East Room news conference.

Meanwhile, Trump’s attorneys were told to expect a new indictment tied to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the efforts to overturn Trump’s 2020 presidential election defeat. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre held a news briefing Thursday on the same day when President Joe Biden announced new steps to bring millions of Americans relief from historic summer heat and when former President Donald Trump faced new legal troubles. Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat who leads a Senate panel that oversees funding for the Department of Homeland Security, was wary of any effort to overhaul border policy during a debate over spending.
